Mike McMahon

Daniel T. Herrera

Age: 37
Occupation: High School Administrator
My education and qualifications are: As an educator, husband of an Alameda High School teacher, father of three, I seek to contribute my energy, skills, and expertise toward the progressive movement of Alameda's schools through these ever changing and demanding times. Having worked my way through the ranks, from classified school employee, to teacher, assistant principal, and high school principal, I have a wealth of knowledge, experience, and passion to contribute to our schools. I have a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership, and I am currently working toward an Educational Doctorate at U.C. Berkeley. As a board member, I will work tirelessly to increase employee morale and the quality of our schools, by using and implementing proven and sound practices, and by making adjustments only as needed. I vow to serve diligently and strategically, with a special emphasis on working synergistically with the unions, students, parents, community, and other members of the board. I will carry the intent of Alameda's citizen with me.

Tracy Lynn Jensen

Age: 45
Occupation: Mother, School Board Member, Public Administrator
My education and qualifications are: I am the President of the Alameda Unified School District Board of Education, and my first priority is safe, healthy schools. That is why this year I led teachers, administrators and parents to develop a District "Wellness Policy" to improve school meals and physical activity programs. This fall, Alameda opened the frist new public elementary school in more than 20 years. Ruby Bridges Elementary School came about after years of negotiation between the School District and the City, and a difficult School Board decision to consolidate three small schools. I fought to ensure that the new school served all West End kids and not just families living in the new Bayport development. Ruby Bridges Elementary School demonstrates my commitment to ensuring the best education for all Alameda students. My 5 year old son attends Alameda public school. Alameda public schools can prepare him for success, just as they prepared me for college, graduate school, and a career in public service. I believe that our students are successful because our community values and supports Alameda public schools. Outstanding schools make Alameda special. If you agree with my priorities please vote for me. Thank you.

Mike McMahon

Age: 51
Occupation: Incumbent, Parent, Businessman
My education and qualifications are: I ask for your support that I may continue to use my expertise and experience to serve the educational needs of Alameda's children, youth and adults. As a school board member for the past four years, I have learned the complexities of overseeing our school district and understand the process of making sound decisions. As an Alameda resident for 25 years, I understand the community's educational history, have been involved in many of its organizations, and have experienced the positive effects that our quality educational system provided for my son and two daughters, all of whom graduated from Alameda public schools. I pledge to maintain an open dialog with all of our community members through my website:
www.mikemcmahon.info I promise to continue the prudent fiscal planning and policies that have enabled the Alameda Unified School District to maintain financial solvency. I commit my energy and ability to insure the best possible educational system for Alameda's children, youth and adults based on principles of excellence and equity.
