Lincoln Middle School Drop Off Proposals

In reviewing traffic calming and pedestrian safety issues for Fernside Avenue, Alameda Unified School District and the City of Alameda have developed two scenarios involving a drop off zone on Lincoln Middle School property.

Scenario One is a drop off zone for approximately two dozen cars and the traffic would reenter Fernside.

Scenario Two is a drop off zone for approximately three dozen cars and the traffic would exit at a new traffic light at San Jose Avenue. Traffic could make a left turn and return to Bay Farm.

Both scenarios would use approximately 37 feet of Lincoln Middle School grass area. While the complete impact to the basketball courts and field have not been explained, it is my understanding that both can be reconfigured to insure ongoing sports programs. More information on the exact impact to these sports area was presented at the April 26, 2005 Board of Education meeting.
