BOE Meeting 3/13/07 Update

Phase II (Miller, Lincoln, Alameda High School, Earhart and Haight)

    Lincoln is complete. Minor punch list items is being completed.

    Earhart - Project is complete expect for lighting in Multi Use Room. It will be completed this month. Punch list items being worked on.

    Haight is on schedule. All structural work complete. Finish items being done.

    Alameda High School had two more sets of six classrooms completed.

    Miller first phase is complete. Will resume work during summer.

Phase III (Paden, Otis, Edison, Washington and Lum)

    All drawings have been revised due to the changes in budget and re-approved by DSA. Projects will bud in March. We have to develop a plan to complete the projects over the summer and in the evening.

Phase IIIa Historic Alameda High School

    Retro fit under design. Currently reviewing budget to reevaluate and revise the project scope.

Phase IV (Chipman, Bay Farm, Franklin, Woodstock and Longfellow) & Phase V (Wod, Encinal, Adult School and Woodstock CDC)

    These projects are currently under design. We are planning to move the Chipman restroom upgrade and exterior painting to this summer. The remainder of the work will probably occur next summer.

Technology has spent approximately $3,500,000 on infrastructure and computers.

Total Measure C Expenditures so far are almost $42,000,000. We also have spent $8,900,000 of State Modernization/Growth funds.

BOE Meeting 1/30/07 Update

Staff is recommending the following budgets for Phase 3:

  • Edison Elementary $2,019,157
  • Lum Elementary $1,866,192
  • Otis Elementary $2,006,395
  • Paden Elementary $1,300,907
  • Washington Elementary $2,758,298

The changes to amounts above represent revised estimates after a more thorough analysis of the work to be done. The total budgeted for Phase 3 is $1.8 million above the revised budget passed in October, 2005. Staff will work on reducing the amount by eliminating painting and making some items optional.

BOE Meeting 6/13/06 Update

Phase 1

New School

    Building A (Administration) and Building B (Multi Use) is currently a week behind due to a material arrival problem. Catching up will occur as materials arrive using overtime and Saturdays.

    Classrooms are on schedule.

    Alameda Park and Recreation has bid the park portion of the project for completion in conjunction with the school opening. Community building has been postponed.

Phase 2

Miller, Lincoln, Alameda High School, Earhart, Haight

    Lincoln Two Story has been occupied. This is allowing upgrade of other classrooms in main building. Science Wing, Pod 3, Pod 4 and Media Center will be completed in summer.

    Earhart - Building 2 has been completed and reoccupied. Building 3 has also been completed and occupied. Kindergarten, Media Center and Multi Use room will be completed during the summer.

    Haight is under contract and will start as soon as possible.

    Alameda High School will have the Media Center, Office area, Clinic and six English classrooms under construction this summer.

    Miller will have the Media Center and all classrooms worked on this summer. Multi Use romm and portables will be done next summer due to the need for storage space for movement to the new school.

Phase 3

Paden, Otis, Edison, Washington and Lum

    Drawings have been revised due to changes in budget. Projects will bid in September.

Special BOE Meeting 5/30/06 Update

Approved the construction bids for Alameda High School and Miller Elementary School for $10. 976,238.

BOE Meeting 4/11/06 Update

New School - Original project is currently two weeks behind schedule for July completion, due to heavy rains in March.

Alameda Parks and Recreation bid for the park was rejected at the April 4th City Council meeting. They will go out for new bids.

Phase II - Lincoln Two Story has been installed. Weather has kept us from completion of the required concrete work so we are hoping for s spring break completion. Earhart - Buildings 2 & 3 have been completed and recoccupied. Remainder of the project is scheduled for summer completion. Haight, Alameda High and Miller are out to bid. Haight bid opening is Arpil 25, 2006. Alameda High and Miller bid opening is May 16, 2006.

Phase III - Paden, Otis, Edison, Washington & Lum will be ready for bidding in June, 2006.

BOE Meeting 2/14/06 Update

Phase I

  1. New School
  2. Encinal High School Lights
    • Field lights were completed and ulitized for the Big Game.

Phase II

  1. Lincoln
    • Two story portable delivered and assembled. Final interior connection are in progress. Anticipated occupancy is mid March. This allow upgrade of other classrooms in main buidling.
  2. Earhart
    • Building 2 has been completed and reoccupied.
    • Building 3 now under construction.
  3. Haight, Alameda High School and Miller
    • Drawings are being revised based on revised budget approved by the Board.
    • Final drawings are expected at the end of February. Bid opening in April with construction start in June.

Phase III

  1. Paden, Otis, Edison, Washington and Lum
    • Drawings are being revised due to changes in budget. Projects ready for bid in June, 2006.

BOE Meeting 12/13/05 Update

At the December 13th BOE meeting, the Board approved (McMahon voting no)the change orders for construction of the new wing of the new Woodstock school at the Bayport site The change order of $1.7 million dollars for vertical construciton and $300,00 for the concrete slab will bring the total cost of the new school to $20.8 million. The original budget for the new school was $15.3.

Special BOE Workshop 9/6/05 Update

At a special meeting on September 6th, the Board approved the low bid for construction of the K-5 portion of the new Woodstock school at the Bayport site The low bid of $15.5 million dollars will bring the total cost of the new school to $18.8 million. The original budget for the new school was $15.3.

The Board will be deciding how to reallocate remaining bond monies for the remaining phases.

Special BOE Workshop 8/22/05 Update

There was three hour workshop to receive a construction update on the projects, a review of economic factors impacting construction, a discussion on various options to address estimated budget overage at Haight school and future steps to address the Measure C budget. The entire recap is summarized in the BOE meeting section.

BOE Meeting 6/28 2005 Update

  1. New School - Bayport Site
  2. Site Work began June 13, 2005 and is estimated to be completed by September 30, 2005. Vertical construction bids are expected to be received in August, 2005.

  3. Alameda New High School
  4. Bids for Alameda High School were significantly over budget. Project being reviewed for scope and clarification. To be rebid for a September construction start.

  5. Miller Elementary
  6. Bids for Miller School were significantly over budget. Project being reviewed for scope and clarification. To be rebid for a September construction start.

  8. Bids within budget and construction started June 20, 2005.

  9. Lincoln Middle School Renovation
  10. Bids within budget and construction started June 20, 2005.

  11. Haight Elementary
  12. Problems with the DSA have been resolved and project to be bid this summer with a September construction start.

BOE Meeting 4/12 2005 Update

Phase One

The two story portable for Lincoln that was scheduled for last summer (Phase 1) will be done this summer. Due to an extensive drying period for stucco, the portable will not be stuccoed until 2006 summer. The installation of the two story portable for Chipman has been deferred.

Phase 2 Starting School Year 2004/05

Each of the link below contains the information presented in March, 2004. The scope of each project has not changed but the initial projected dates may have changed. Below is a recap of the key dates for each project.

  1. New School - Bayport Site
  2. May 20th at 10:30am is the scheduled date for a Groundbreaking Ceremony. Site work will begin in May and building construction starting in July with occupancy anticipated in September, 2006.

  3. Alameda New High School
  4. During the 2005 summer, work on the office and media center will be done with an anticipated completion prior to the start of the school year. Six portables will be installed in front of Patten Gym. These six portables will house classrooms as the classroom renovations take place during the 2005/06 school year. Completion of all work is expected by September, 2006.

  5. Miller Elementary
  6. Work for Miller is expected to be completed over the 2005 summer.

  7. Earhart Elementary
  8. During the 2005 summer, work on the office, multi-purpose rom and media center will be done with an anticipated completion prior to the start of the school year. The installation of the five modulars will be done in pod formation with the existing Math portable. These five classrooms will house classrooms as the classroom renovations take place during the 2005/06 school year. Because of the bathrooms in Kindergarten classrooms, renovations will occur during the 2006 summer. Completion of all work is expected by September, 2006.

  9. Lincoln Middle School Renovation
  10. During the 2005 summer, work on the office, multi-purpose room and media center will be done with an anticipated completion prior to the start of the school year. The installation of the two story portables will add four additional classrooms. These four classrooms will house classrooms as the classroom renovations take place during the 2005/06 school year. Completion of all work is expected by September, 2006.

    At the April 26th Board meeting, staff will present information regarding a proposal for a drop off zone for Lincoln. This will be an informational item only with no action to be taken.

  11. Haight Elementary
  12. The 1989 Bond work for Haight School did not have all of the necessary approvals. As a result, there is a delay in obtaining the state approval for this project. We are working with the State to obtain the necessary approvals and if we obtain them we will be able to start on Haight during the 2005 summer.

BOE Meeting 12/14 2004 Update

The Superintendent announced that settlement with Catellus/Warmington has been reached. The developers of the Bayport site had sued the District over additional developer fees. The $1,200,000 settlement covers the entire project of 400+ new homes. In addition, the Superintendent indicated that the District had received title to the Bayport property.

In addition, the Board reviewed the design plans for the new school.

BOE Meeting 10/26 2004 Update

BOE approved Quitclaim Deed with the city of Alameda allowing the transfer of the Bayport property to AUSD.

Received financial updates on Phases 1 & 2 of Measure C.

BOE Meeting 10/12 2004 Update

BOE approved Right of Way Agreement with Catellus which allow the City to transfer the Bayport property to AUSD.

BOE Meeting 8/10 2004 Update

Roofing projects were completed at Alameda High School, Historic Alameda High School, Encinal High School, Lincoln Middle School, Haight Elementary School, Miller Elementary School and Washington Elementary School.

Pavement repairs will be completed by September 1st for Bay Farm Elementary School, Franklin Elementary School and Longfellow Elementary School.

Playground equipment was installed at Franklin Elementary School and Miller Elementary School.

Fencing projects will be completed at Earhart Elementary School, Otis Elementary School and Wood Middle Schoool.

Painting has been completed at Bay Farm Elementary School.

Installation of lights at Encinal High School has begun. If everything works out, the lights could be ready for the first night game on September 24th.

Installed backbone wiring to every classroom in the District with placement of a computer at every teacher work station anticipated to be completed in September.

An intercom system was replaced at Otis Elementary School.

As previousily reported, the two stories portables were not installed this summer at Chipmand and Lincoln middle schools and will occur in summer 2005.

Special BOE Meeting 6/29 2004 Update

Bids were approved under the consent items for the following projects for Summer 2004:

  • Roof Repairs at Alameda High School, Historic Alameda High School, Miller Elementary School, and Washington Elementary School
  • Pavement repairs at Bay Farm Elementary School and Longfellow Elementary School
  • Exterior Painting of Bay Farm Elementary School
  • Replacement of fencing at Earhart Elementary School, Otis Elementary School, and Wood Middle School
  • Installation of lights at Encinal High School

The Board appointed six members to the Citizens Oversight Committee.

Delays have been encountered with the installation of the two story portables for Chipman and Lincoln Middle Schools. Construction and installation would have extended to Thanksgiving so as a result the project will done in Summer 2005.

BOE Meeting 6/23 2004 Update

Bids were approved under the consent items for the following projects for Summer 2004:

  • Install Data and Wirless Access Points

Delays have been encountered with the installation of the two story portables for Chipman and Lincoln Middle Schools. No additional information on the impact was discussed.

The Board conducted public hearings on the approval of negative declaration of environmental impact and preliminary endagerment assessment for the new Woodstock school at Bayport.

There are nine applicants for the seven positions on the Citizens Oversight Committee. Currently, there are no applicants with an affiliation with a taxpayer organization. Appointments will be made a special Board meeting on June 29th.

BOE Meeting 5/11 2004 Update

The election results were certified by the Board. The Citizens Oversight Committee needs to be appointed within 60 days.

BOE Meeting 4/27 2004 Update

The portables for Lincoln and Chipman Middle schools have been approved.

Bids on seven to eight roofing projects for summer may come to Board in the month of May. Additional potential projects for the summer including paving and playground equipment replacement will likely be delayed as the contractors/vendors are not able to commit to summer completion dates. Fencing projects for Earhart, Miller and Wood are being researched.

The following work is underway for the new school at the Bayport site: testing requirements for toxic substance control from the state should be finalized shortly, the geo-technical survey of soil conditions needed to support the foundation has started and the design team has reconvened to continue design work for the school site.
